Founded in 2015 by musician Mario Mitchell, purplehearts is a genre-defying project built around raw emotion, cinematic storytelling, and unapologetic honesty. Originally launched as a solo endeavor, purplehearts quickly evolved through a creative collaboration with RIAA Multi-Gold Producer Kevin W. Gates, helping shape the project's distinctive sound and ambitious vision.
Rather than being confined to a single genre, purplehearts blends melodic rock, alternative, industrial textures, hip-hop influences, electronic elements, and crushing guitars into music that is driven first and foremost by feeling. Every release is rooted in authentic experiences, balancing vulnerability with intensity and crafting songs that resonate whether they're quiet and reflective or loud and cathartic.
The project's breakout fan favorite, "Freak Show Society," released in October 2016 on The Dark Carnival EP, introduced listeners to purplehearts' emotionally charged style and helped earn a performance at the 2019 Gathering of the Juggalos.
